2004 Rich will provide on-camera commentary about the William
Hanhardt case; his conviction and imprisonment on Court-TV's "The
Jewelry Store Job," an episode of the "Masterminds" program. The
show airs at 10:00 p.m., CST, and is repeated again on Wednesday,
February 23 at 2:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m.; and Friday, Feb. 25th, at
6:30 p.m.

2004 Warner Home Video and New Wave entertainment of Burbank,
CA, will release the DVD edition of "Heat," the 1995 motion picture
and crime drama starring Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino and Jon Voight.
Critic Leonard Maltin called it a "fascinating, multi-layered character
study." Based on the exploits of William Hanhardt as he tracked
down Chicago stick-up man Neil McAuley in 1964, Rich was interviewed
for one of the special "featurettes" included on the DVD. He offers
commentary on the real-life circumstances surrounding the incidents
described in the Michael Mann-directed film.

2004 Tuesday, at 8:30 p.m. Court TV will air the third episode
in their crime documentary series "Masterminds." Rich will appear
in an interview segment for "The Jewelry Store Job," profiling the
William Hanhardt case. While writing and editing the Illinois Police
& Sheriff's News, Rich was the last journalist to interview the
former Chicago Police Deputy Superintendent before he was convicted
of leading a band of skilled jewelry thieves who pilfered several
million dollars worth of gems in the 1990s. Hanhardt, a once-respected
figure in local law enforcement is presently incarcerated in a federal
penitentiary in Minnesota. The documentary was prepared by Tiger

2004 Tuesday, at 6:00 p.m. The first regularly scheduled meeting
of the Illinois Academy of Criminology for the 2004-2005 year begins
with a controversial panel discussion on gun control in the auditorium
of the Chicago Police Department, 19th District, Area 3 Headquarters,
2452 W. Belmont Avenue in Chicago. The program is still in development,
but Dr. John Lott, Jr., a John M. Olin Fellow at the University
of Chicago Law School is tentatively scheduled to defend his controversial
theory that "More Guns Mean Less Crime" with a representative of
the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence. The program kicks
off Rich's year-long term as president of ILACD. The event is free

Bilek, veteran law enforcement officer, criminologist and author
to present a program about famous Chicago crimes including the St.
Valentine's Day Massacre. Bilek was attached to the Cook County
Sheriff's Police in the early 1960s, and later the famed Northwestern
Traffic Institute. Rich has been a Commission member for ten years.

January 30, 2003 "Evidence: Episode Two," on the Discovery
Channel is a continuation of the first program aired in November
2002. Rich discusses the Patty Columbo murders and the Speck case.
The segment will air on Thursday, January 30 at 7:00 and 10:00 p.m.

February 20, 2003 Another season of the award-winning
"Chicago Stories" debuts at 9:00 p.m. on Channel 11, WTTW/Network
Chicago with a program about the July 1919 Chicago Race riots. Rich
will comment on the policing of the riot and the historical and
social implications of this pivotal event in local history.
Television guest appearances:
"Justice Files" The Discovery Channel debuts this compelling new
crime documentary series focusing on famous cases, and the physical
evidence associated with the police investigations that have been
stored and catalogued in a Chicago warehouse for many years. Rich
will appear in two segments, commenting on the 1977 Patty Columbo
murder case and the crimes of John Wayne Gacy and Richard Speck.
